Danger of Obesity

It is now known that obesity is not just an ordinary problem but a serious health hazard. Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide, with increasing prevalence in adults and children, and authorities view it as one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century. It increases the risks of heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gallstones, gout, sleep apnea, and asthma. Statistics reveal that heart disease and stroke are the principal causes of death and disability among people in the United States. Studies have shown obesity in teenagers continues to grow. It also shows that 6 out of every 10 Americans are overweight, and like Frank, nearly 1/3 all Americans are obese. It all starts with the lack of a healthy eating program and daily exercise.

Obesity raises cholesterol and triglycide levels and lowers HDL good cholesterol leading to stroke. It also raises the levels of blood pressure and blood sugar. This combination increases the risk of heart attack. Obesity may also be responsible for angina and sudden death from heart disease or stroke in the absence of any signs or symptoms. Obese people have far greater chances of developing type 2 diabetes than normal weight people, as it reduces the body's ability to control blood sugar. Type 2 diabetes may lead to premature death, heart disease, stroke, and blindness. Obesity increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic venous insufficiency, gallbladder problems, daytime sleeping, fatigue, gout, hypertension, pancreatic problems, infertility and low back pain.
